I'm working with dhcp and tftp to enable a PXE boot on my lan.
So far I've figured out how to do everything to make it work,
but I need to make a decision about which distro to run on the
PXE clients.
I'd like to go with Debian since that would be very easy for me
to support. The possible glitch is that I'm not sure how good
Debian is at discovering and configuring new hardware on the fly.
If there are any good tools for hardware discovery (such as what-
ever Knoppix uses) that would be ideal. I've tried to find how
to do this, but I'm not having much luck.
Speaking of Knoppix, that's what I thought about implementing
since it's great at discovery of new hardware. However, I don't
want to boot from a virtual cdrom. I want to create a workstation
with a hard drive I can use to customize as needed to create the
filesystem that is used by PXE clients. The Knoppix website is
full of warnings about not installing to a hard drive.
So I'm wondering if anyone is using a PXE environment, or if you
have any suggestions.
