I'm certain this can be done, but there's a subtlety that's eluding
me.

What I want is a SuSE 11 system running Windows XP in a VMPlayer
session. The SuSE 11 system should run Samba, and the XP session
should be able to mount exported drives from the SuSE system.

What I'm seeing is that the XP session can't open a connection
to the Samba server.

On XP: Go to Network Neighbors, click 'view workgroup computers'.
The SuSE system shows up. Click SuSE system icon, and get an
error message.

I've been running wireshark, and it appears that the XP system is
sending out a DNS request for 'newtoy.localdomain'. This is
eventually resolved as 'newtoy.localdomain.opendns.org', with an
IP address that's not on this box.

I think the rest of my problems are stemming from this, and once I can
get VMPlayer to resolve the name to an address on the vmnet, I can add
users, set permissions, etc.

Anyone go through this exercise recently? Have a clue?

Thanks,
Clif
